Hello fellow Chasers. A warm welcome to our current and many new subscribers this week.
This has been one fun week for me. I’ve never had to work out this hard before. This whole week, I’ve been packing in from 1-3 hours per day dancing, swimming, gym and golf. I’m tired but feeling fantastic .
Anyone up for the wonderful after-effects of a great workout? Oh, come on, get up, get moving, get the scoop in today’s articles. I promise it isn’t as hard as it looks, but first you have to get out of that chair you’re sitting in. Pick an activity you like and go. Or try your hand at everything just for fun. If you’ve got a routine going, keep it up!
Oh, before you go, remember to bring lots of water. If you’re in colder weather, lucky you. But for those of us sweating it out in this heat, water is the only sanity.
We really appreciate having you with us. Here’s wishing you a fun-filled week of exercise. Write and tell me about it, I’d love to exchange notes :o). Ciao for now.

Modern Living
Train Your Mind and Body One Minute at a Time
by Hirini Reedy
Many people are just too busy working these days to think about their lives. People simply don’t have the time. How often do we hear the phrase “I’d love to exercise but I don’t have the time” or “I would love to read a good book but I don’t have the time”. So many people start to feel guilty and bitter that they don’t exercise and don’t have much fun in their lives. It leads to increasing levels of obesity and stress-induced disorders that are now afflicting the populations of First World nations.
Yet the key is to win back the battle for mind and body one minute at a time. You don’t have time to exercise? No problem, just do one minute right now. You don’t have time to think about your life? No problem, just do one minute right now. Start to train your body and mind one minute at a time. Fill the unforgiving minute with 60 seconds worth of distance run! So said Rudyard Kipling in his famous poem "If".
Yes, you can do a lot in one minute. You become more focussed on the present moment. The current minute is the present moment. Yet we can all distort time. One minute can seem like an hour when a dentist is drilling a hole in your teeth. Or one hour can seem like a minute when you are with someone you love. Here are some ways you can use the power of one minute.
Exercise For One Minute. Just exercise for one minute. Forget about the past 60 minutes or the next 59 minutes. Focus on the next one minute. Perhaps do a deep breathing exercise. One minute of push-ups. One minute of sit-ups. Do one minute of something.
After a while you may do two minutes then three minutes. Wow, you have just made a 200% improvement. If you think one minute of exercise is easy, then try this. Take in a big breath. Hold this breath and pull in your navel. Now put both arms in front of you. Imagine pulling and pushing a heavy train. Do this for one minute while holding your breath. You will be sucking and gasping for air by the end of one minute or sooner. Easy minute, yeah right.
Yet this simple one-minute exercise strengthens your chest, shoulder and arm muscles and tendons using sustained contractions. It increases your chi energy fields by heating and compressing the air in your lungs. It also teaches you to focus your mind for one minute.
Train Your Mind For One Minute. Your mind is like a muscle. It grows stronger when you exercise and use it. For example, the image-nation is a wonderful place to visit. I am at a beautiful tropical beach. The sun is warm on my skin. I smell the sea breeze and hear the gulls circling above me. I am floating on a raft a short distance from shore. I am floating upwards into the clear blue sky, circling, spiralling upwards on warm currents of air. It feels blissful. Yet I am still sitting here at my desk.
Your mind is a world, a theatre, a paradise that you can easily visit within one minute. You can go there to relax and clear your mind whereever you maybe. In a hotel lobby, a plane, a taxi or at your desk. You can then rejoin this world feeling a lot calmer and cleaner.
Change Your References For One Minute. Your references are those internal processes, patterns and memories you use to make sense and meaning of the world around you. For example, do you speak two or more languages? You then have more references to interpret and decode the world around you. I am writing here in English yet I could explain these concepts using my native Maori language. It would not make much sense to you because you would not have any internal references to decode the Maori language into bytes of meaning (unless you knew Maori).
Yet we can open up our world-view by changing our frames of references for one minute. Go outside your normal self for one minute. Act the opposite of who you are for one minute. Think outside your normal thinking. Think like an elephant for one minute. Think like a bird. A cloud. A mountain. A 1000 year old person. Do this for one minute then put your normal head back on your shoulders.
Think of a problem. Now choose a different frame of reference to look at your problem. Look at it through the eyes of someone you admire. How does the problem feel now? Or think with the head of an Albert Einstein. How do you perceive this problem now?
Perhaps you want to be happy for one minute. Simple, just think about all your reasons to be happy. Forget about past tragedies or future disasters. Just think about all the happy references in your life for the next one minute.
Focus One Hour Into One Minute. Ask yourself, how can I focus one hour into one minute? Start by examining your references about time. Is this possible? Think smart and re-engineer your solutions such that what took one hour now takes one minute. Keep asking yourself the question, how can I do things better? Start by chopping off one minute at a time.
This is the power of leverage and focus. A tiny action applied at a critical point to generate an extraordinary result. Think how you can apply leverage and focus to all your time-critical activities.
You can achieve wonders in one minute when you really focus your mind and body. Go on; fill the unforgiving minute with 60 seconds worth of distance run. Race yourself!

Five Ways to Fit Fitness into Your Life
By Sylvie Charrier
It is extremely important to select an exercise program that will be well-suited to your lifestyle. If you have to drive 25 miles in rush hour traffic to the nearest pool, a swimming routine might not be your first pick. Find an exercise program that you like - shop around, try out various sports and programs. Only you can really determine if a given exercise plan is right for your tastes. In the end, the key to any exercise plan is obvious: For it to "work", you have to stick to it. And, to stick to it, most people need to find some satisfaction in what they're doing. Go out and find some exercise fun!
The Buddy System: Exercise Made Easy
Find a partner to exercise with you. Having an exercise buddy will not only keep you motivated, it will also help you push yourself to becoming better and better. Your partner will inspire you to get out of bed on those cold mornings when you’re feeling lazy, and will share in your excitement when you've reached a milestone on your path to achieving your health goals. In addition, a partner will allow you to discuss your fears or frustrations, too. Find a partner and commit to making positive change in your life today.
Elevator Out of Order: Use the Stairs
Whenever you can, use the stairs instead of the elevator. Elevators may be convenient, but they also make us lazy. There are so many opportunities in your daily life where you can choose to either be lazy or motivated to move. Doing a stair workout shows that your dedicated to achieving your diet and fitness goal. You will actually give your body a surprisingly good workout just by walking up and down stairs. If you focus your attention when climbing or descending, you can isolate the affected muscles groups (e.g., calves, quadriceps, gluteus, hamstring) and produce a stellar workout for yourself.
Wriggle 'Em, Jiggle 'Em: Fun with All Your Fingers and Toes
Whether you're stuck behind a desk, tied up in rush hour traffic, or sitting in your favorite chair watching TV, any time is a good time to give your body a healthy stretch. Why don't you start with your fingers and your toes? Wiggle them, jiggle them, stretch them 'round - your joints will thank you more than you can know. Release that tension and say goodbye to accumulated stress by starting with these simple stretches.
Swim, Swam, Swum: Your Health Has Just Begun
If you are just starting out on your path toward weight loss and renewed health, swimming is one of the best exercises for you. Because it is a non-weight bearing activity-meaning you aren't placing the stress of your body weight on your muscles and joints-you can exercise more safely and for longer periods of time. Swimming is an excellent exercise to build cardiovascular strength, burn calories, and establish whole-body conditioning. If there is a pool nearby, swim as often as you can. And, if nothing else, a cool dip in a pool is a wonderful stress reliever.
If You Can Sit, You Can Stand. If You Can Stand, You Can Walk
If one day you want to revel in your achievements, you need to revolutionize your life - from your diet, to exercise, to your daily habits. For example, if you sit at a desk for a living, get up every half an hour and take a lap around the floor of your office. If you stand for a living, shift your weight back and forth between legs, walk about, stretch out. Because movement is the key to getting your body in shape, take every opportunity you can to do a little moving and shaking!
